ZON Christmas Tree in Lisbon
The famous ZON Christmas tree is shining once again at Parque Eduardo VII in Lisbon since its amazing launch on 29th November. The tree is comprised of 1.625.000 tiny light bulbs and 90 neon stars, that lights up Lisbon city during the Christmas period. It is the largest Christmas tree in Europe and where it is illuminated, can be seen from several points in the charming and cosmopolitan city of Lisbon until 6th January 2010.

Two weekends ago, I decided to treat my family to something extra special. I took them to see the Moscow Classical Ballet in Lisbon. My 5 year old daughter loves ballet and couldn’t wait to see the real thing! Events like this one, are a regular occurance in Lisbon and with it only taking just over 2 hours by car from the Algarve, it is no problem to pop up for a show or even to stay overnight and make a weekend from it like we did.
The show took place in the Coliseu dos Recreios, which is centrally located near Avenida Liberdade. We stayed at the Eurostars das Letras, a charming new hotel, which is only 2 minutes away from the venue by taxi.
The performance by the Moscow Classical Ballet was excellent and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed her first live ballet performance. Following the show, we headed to the Hard Rock cafe for dinner and soaked up the atmosphere before heading back to the hotel.
Certainly a great opportunity to get away for the weekend and experience something different!

A couple of months ago one of the parents from the São Lourenço International School came up with the idea of trying to break the world Human Mattress Domino Day record.
Following a lot of organizing up front it was finally the big day! The children were all transported to the Algarve Football Stadium by bus, very excited and in good spirit.
The world record prior this day was 123 human mattresses. We had about 250 mattresses available. After registering and receiving our number we then entered the stadium where all the mattresses had been laid out. The local press and a TV station were there to broadcast this fun domino day. Everybody then held up their mattress. First there was a trial attempt and then we had to do the real one and remain on the mattresses until the official count was done. The smaller children were watching it all from the grand stand and were helping with the count down and due to their enthusiasm created a great atmosphere.
All parents, teachers and friends had also been asked to come along to this enjoyable event. The ambience was fantastic and the turn out was excellent.
We managed to absolutely smash the world record and are holding the current title with 244 mattresses. São Lourenço International School will soon be in the history books!!
